To strengthen India’s education sector, various educational policies and reforms have been taken in the last few years. With these revolutionary initiatives, it is believed that the Indian education system can overcome its flaws and improve drastically. In 2018, Former Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar came up with historic decisions to ensure quality, equality, accessibility, accountability, and affordability in the education system. All these initiatives by the Government of India and Delhi were appreciated by the masses, though there could be a difference of opinion in its implementation. To name a few, here we listed the five revolutionary educational initiatives by Delhi Government and Government of India.

Happiness Curriculum

Introduced by the Government of Delhi in 2018, the motive of this curriculum was to focus on holistic education by including meditation, value education, and mental exercises in the conventional educational curriculum. This reinvention of school in Delhi government schools was much appreciated by Melania Trump during her recent visit in February 2020.

National Testing Agency (NTA)

Established in 2017, National Testing Agency was approved by the Union Council of Ministers for conducting entrance examinations for higher educational institutions. Besides, relieving CBSE, AICTE, IITs, IIMs and other agencies from responsibilities and allowing them to focus on their core mandate, the agency is proven to be beneficial for JEE students since it allows them to appear twice a year for the exam.

Schoolbag Weight Limit

For the wellbeing of growing children, the Delhi Government fixed the weight of school bags for young students. Heavy school bags were considered a threat to physical health and might affect the vertebral column and knees of growing children. Therefore, the Government of Delhi maintained a chart for weights of school bags for students between 1st to 10th. The range of this chart lies between 1.5 kg to 5kg.

PM’s Research Fellowship

Meant for the aspiring doctorates, the objectives of this scholarship is to attract the genius pool of the nation to Ph.D. programs of Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc) for researching on cutting-edge Science and Technology, with a primary focus on national priorities. Also, a research grant of Rs 2 lakh is promised to fellows for five years to cover their foreign travel expenses and present research papers internationally.

Entrepreneurship Curriculum

To cope up with current situations of global economic slowdown and joblessness, Delhi Government launched Entrepreneurship Curriculum from classes 9th to 12th in all the Delhi Government Schools. The objective of this curriculum is to shift the mindset from Job Seekers to Job providers and help India in becoming a job-creating economy rather than the job-seeking economy.
